Yesterday was Sunday, and i would say the only day of the week when its possible to listen to some indian music and listen to some indian cultural, traditional and moral discussions.
I tunned in as a regular listener in the morning and soon they telecasted a Akashvani pre recorded show from Delhi. The topic was very interesting and a bit funier to me, it was, The law of "Right to ask question".
Wow, golden day in the Indian constitution, I must say, that now allows every commom man to ask legitimate questions to the government. Yes, government. I m not making any fancy laws here, but its true. As every member of the parliment has the right to ask certain questions that he/she may not be happy about, is now passed on to the common public. It was put in order from october 2005. An organisation called "Parivartan", has played a major role in making this law reach the common man through various medium including conducting workshops. The recent 4 day workshop produced a staggering 2000 applications, full of different set of questions that will be put forward to the government. That's an acheivement, i must say. 2000 complaints ? in 4 days ..... from just one part of the country ? What if, when it reached every person of India and hopefully there will be a similar workshop on every corner, just as a voting centre during elections? God help government then ......
A very important aspect that the speaker put forward was that, according to him this will bring a lot of transperancy in the system, as the government will have to answer every bit if any individual is no happy the way he is treated. He also supported his judgement by the 2 most intresting cases he reviewed.
Case # 01 : A lady from a local village applied for "Ration card". As usual days, weeks and months passed away, but the ration card was not in her hand. She waited double the normal waiting period, ie: instead of 3 months, 6 months passed, when she thought of finally making some inquiry about the ration card. She went a few times to the government office, but as usual, deep pockets, just tossed her from table to table. Poor lady finally landed up in the NGO, "Parivartan". They were more than happy to listen to her and suggested her to ask a question to the government, as to what happened with her application. The lady put down a few questions, like she wanted to know the status of her application or the name of the officer that was handling her file and whom can she go and meet regarding this issue. Two days later a Food Inspector knocked her door with her ration card himself, saying "Your card was ready since so many days, you did not come to pick it up, so i thought of delivering it myself". Can u believe this ......
Case # 02 : Just after elections one common things that every elected minister does is to make new roads. One man in a building just next to the road, noticed a pot hole right in the middle of the road just after a couple of first rains. Vehicles started bumping in and traffic jams caused more than kois and runied the happiness of the nearby residence. This man, under the same law, asked who the contractor was that won the tender to build the roads and why is it in such a state. Was he not paid enough by the govenrmnet to make good roads that can atleast last a complete season? Its said that, even before he received any reply from the government or the contractor himself, the road was repaired overnight.Amazing, isint it?
But as the speaker said that this will bring transperancy in the system, the secracy oath would really be a question.Anyways, i just want to make a point her, ie: what if each one of us has a question to the govenrment, and if every question is answered in a similar fashion, will it not take india to a different level ??
What will that day be when these small but high priority jobs would be willingly done as a responsibility and not as a mere requirement of duty.......

F.R.I.E.N.D.S

It was 1989, when my mom changed me from division C to division B as my class teacher was pregnant. So just that i dont have a mental study break in between the year, i was moved. I cried as i did not wanna seperate from my friends. But i thought who cared, but i was wrong, she only cared about my better.
Anyways, i was clubbed in with a few friends very quickly and some of us became very very good friends. We went to school together and came back together. Studied, played and fought as every other kid. I was in 2nd standard then. But my friends were my friends, and i was very proud of them.
Years went on and we went up higher and higher in grade. Started hanging out outside school, studies together, borrowed notebook when missed school, enjoyed school picnics etc etc. It was so nice to have all of them. But then in 1997, it was our SSC and soon we all realised that its time for us to bid good bye to a few forever. It was tough on everyone of us, as we were probably not prepared to take that challenege. We were still cushioned for each other, and emotions played a mjor part in everyones life. It showed how much we cared for each other, and how much we wanted to stay more in the same school. Together.
I had a few friends, but real good friends. Everyone enrolled in some or the other college for different streams and life changed suddenly. It was no more school. We could miss the lectures and still be ok. Life started playing its own turn now. It just reversed. Untill them life controlled us, but now on it felt as if we controlled life. Seriously, it was freedom.
I still made some new friends but my pool of school friends is still much stronger. We r in touch even today. Not many of us but really a few, and we meet regularly as much as we can.
Since in college, we kept in touch through phone calls and meetings as n when everyone was in town. Many of my friends went out of vasai for studies, but my best one was still there with me. And i made a few more best.
Life rolled and i finished graduation and then it was time to think and do something responsible. I found a well paid job and stuck to it for 3 years. It was such an amazing learning experience. I met so many big personalities of the market. Just amazing for a person of my calibre. After which i decided to think long term and came down to sydney for my further studies. Professional accounting was never going to be easy and away from house was just too much to handle in the beginnning. But life kept on teaching something new everyday and i just got used to this life very soon.
And today i m on the stage of just finishing my studies and i have started thinking of doing something responsible ahead. Many things, many responsibilities and many obligations. Life is all that we can take, and then i say to myself, "Bring em' on".
All this went so quickly with time, but all that kept it all together were my friends, very few, but my. I miss them just next to as much as i miss my family.
Many of my friends will be reading this and i m sure all this is related to our lives somehow. I m sure u ll try and find it and fix it.Just that i would like to mention a very small list of my friends .... but just scared that i might miss some .....
P.S : Above writing just was not on mind, but dont know y i just scribbled today. Pls understand ......

Busy Busy ....
Hi guys,
I have been away from blogging for quite a while now. Actually just busy with work. Starting my day at 6 am and hoping in bed only by 10 pm. But managed some time today to get back to something that i miss doing the most. BLOGGING !!
Last month and half has really been soo very busy with work. And on my weekend i m left with all the bloody laundry from the whole week and calling up back home. Did not find any time where i could post something. Was reading all u guys blog on an off but never could dedicate any time to post anything. Time is just flying and i m simply trying to catch up with it.
Just not finding enough time to do all the desired things, So many things to do and such little time, is my cry always. A bit more mental than physical. As i m always ready to grab the opportunity.
Had just been out for a office christmas party around the harbour, posting some pic of that cruise ride. Did not do anything special apart from work during this whole time.
As its summer holidays and christmas and new year just around the corner everyone is off on their holidays and work pressure is just building up, but thats a part of r job. Anyways ......
Ok ppl, i ll head off now, but as i m back i ll being knocking on regularly as usual again. My mailbox is just flooding and i need to reply to some asap.

Is this TRUE ??

If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin number in reverse.
For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you.
This information was recently broadcasted on TV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists.
PS: Has anyone heard of any such incident of faced it themselves ??

Hummaaaaaa .........
Laloo Prasad Yadav died. Rabri Devi (his wife) was very worried whether Laloo would be able to make it to heaven, so she decided to try & contact his spirit by having a séance. (Black magic used to contact the dead).
Sure enough, after the usual mumbo-jumbo of calling to the spirits, Laloo's> voice was heard answering, "Helloooooooo Rabri, this is meeee..." "Oh dear Lalooji," she answered. "I just need to know if you're happy there in your after-life. What's it like there?"
"Ooooooh, it's much more beautiful here than I ever imagined," Laloo answered. "The sky is bluer, the air is cleaner, and the pastures are much more lush and green than I ever expected ....
And, above all, there is no scam! And the only thing we do, all day long is eat and sleep, eat and sleep, over and over."
"Thank God, you reached heaven," his Rabri cried, wiping some tears.
"Heaven?" he answered. "What heaven? I'm reborn..... I'm a buffalo> in Switzerland."
PS: My apologies if any Laloo fan is offended.

Wish ....

A man walks into a restaurant. The waitress asks for his order. The man says, "A hamburger, fries and a coke," .A short time later the waitress returns with the order. "That will be$9.40 please,"and the man reaches into his pocket and pulls out the exact change forpayment. The next day, the man comes again and says, "A hamburger, fries, and a coke." Again the man reaches into his pocket and pays with exact change.
This becomes routine until, one day he enters again."The usual?" asks the waitress. "No, this is Friday night, so I will havea steak, baked potato, and salad," says the man. "That will be $32.62."Once again the man pulls the exact change out of his pocket and places it on the table. The waitress can't hold back her curiosity any longer."Excuse me, sir. How do you manage to always come up with the exact change out of your pocket every time?"
"Well," says the man, "several years ago I was cleaning the antic and found an old lamp. When I rubbed it a Genie appeared and offered me a wish. My wish was that if I ever had to pay for anything, I would just put my hand in my pocket and the right amount of money would always be there.""That's brilliant!" says the waitress..
"Most people would wish for amillion dollars or something, But you'll always be as rich as you want for as long as you live!""That's right. Whether it's a gallon of milk or a Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there," says the man.

Coffee Cups ....

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite – telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.
When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said:
"If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.
What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups and were eyeing each other's cups. Now if life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups.
They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn't change.
Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it."
So, don't let the cups drive you... enjoy the coffee instead.

Port Stephan's ......

On 23rd September, i had been to Port Stephans, Anna Bay and the wineries. It was gr8 fun and an amazing experience. We had a early start in the morning, at about 7 am. Bought some chips, drinks and off we went.
After driving for about and hour an half we had a breakfast stop at Woung, its a side by petro stop which has mc'donals, coffee cafe and stuff. Just like a truck stop dhabba. Here we also saw some big truck as the ones that we see in some english action movie. They were all lined up, very huge and long.. After hogging some burgers we headed towards Port Stephan's.
(This pic was taken at the breakfast stop)
Another hour drive and we reached Port Stephan's at 10:30 am. Nice port, with the private cruises lined up for the weekend. We took our passes for a ferry cum cruise, for dolphin watch. And that was just fascinating. As we headed deep into the ocean, the blue blur of the water was just magnificiant. The dolphins we just poopinh up for not more than 2 seconds and going down again. I watched dolphins for the first time in my life. Was very excited about it. This dolphin watch went on for more than an hour an half and we returned back to the port at 12:30 pm. I can still feel that experience as i m writing this. Then we had bbq lunch at the port, with a few drinks and headed towards the Anna bay sand dunes at 1:30 pm.
Half an hour drive and we were at Anna bay. I couldn't belive the view. Ocean on one side and sand dunes on the other. Truly spectacular.
(One side desert and other side ocean, u can see them merge at the horizon.)
I staright headed for the sand dunes 4WD drive. And it was so much fun. Total desert, and u in a 4WD. Wow ..... just and experience i never had. 20 minuted and we reached the sand ski point.
(Thats the 4W we hired and that girl was driving it, terrific)
Sand ski????? Not joking, i did it. a 60 degree fall for around 30 meters deep. Huh .... can't express the feeling .... Returned back to the anna bay beach, spend some time in the water. Sipped some cold coffee and headed to the wineries at 4 pm. Reached there in about 30 mins.
(That ski experience was fun, i later discoverd heaps of sand in my undies when i reached home)
It is the largest sand pasture wineries in the southern hemisphere. And all the grapes trees are actually grown in that sand. As far as our sight could see, it was just winery. The best part of the shop there is that, we can taste any wine we want before we actually decide to buy it. And who wants to lose this opportunity. We tasted a few and bought some. Spend some time going around in the wineries and then headed back home at 6 pm.
(Sweet wine, hmmmmm ....... )
Straight drive for 2 hrs 45 mins and were back home. Had bath and hopped in the bed.
Good night !!

Life around Sydney ....

At this point of time i would just say that i m missing home, and missing it desperately. Wanna go home soon but i know its not possible untill next Diwali, coz thats when i would have acheived all those things that i m here for. And then i can go home for some days .....
Well Sydney is cool, very nice in terms of facilities, people, nature, rules and regulations, eductaion etc etc .... The climate is awesome as well.
Its just the beginning of spring here. Happy that it got over with the freezing cold, absolutely freezing, the normal temperature being around 6-8 degrees, and at night, dont ask ....
Anways the sring is just blooming and sunshine is pouring just enough to warm thy self. Soon it will be summer and days will just get long, i did not believe myself last year and u wont believe me if i say that the sunrise is at 4 am and sunset is at 9 pm, but thats true .... when australia plays a test match the morning session starts at 1 pm and shane warne bowls the last ball of the day at 8:40 close of play .... many a time i woke up due to burning sunrays hitting me through the blinds at 5:30 am. Terrible, and last year australia hit the record high temperatue, 48 degrees on the new years eve.
Peopel around sydney r also good, friendly and helpful. Atleast i havent come across anyone rude or rascist, thank god, i dont want to face any such person around.
Well .... just gotta catch up with some work ... i will keep posting different things about sydney which i now know for almost a year and half .....
Have a good day everybody .....

Management ....
Put eight monkeys in a room. In the middle of the room is a ladder, leading to a bunch of bananas hanging from a hook on the ceiling. Each time a monkey tries to climb the ladder, all the monkeys are sprayed with ice water, which makes them miserable. Soon enough, whenever a monkey attempts to climb the ladder, all of the other monkeys, not wanting to be sprayed, set upon him and beat him up. Soon, none of the eight monkeys ever attempts to climb the ladder.
One of the original monkeys is then removed, and a new monkey is put in the room. Seeing the bananas and the ladder, he wonders why none of theother monkeys are doing obvious. But undaunted, he immediately begins to climb the ladder. All the other monkeys fall upon him and beat him silly. He has no idea why. However, he no longer attempts to climb the ladder.
A second originalmonkey is removed and replaced. The newcomer again attempts to climb the ladder, but all the other monkeys hammer the crap out of him. This includes the previous new monkey, who, grateful that he's not on the receiving end this time, participates in the beating because all the other monkeys are doing it. However, he has no idea why he's attacking the new monkey.
One by one, all the original monkeys are replaced. Eight new monkeys are now in the room. None of them have ever been sprayed by ice water. None of them attempt to climb the ladder. All of them will enthusiastically beat up any new monkey who tries, without having any idea why.
This is how any company's policies get Established.

Mumbaikars ....
Dear Terrorist,
Even if you are not reading this we don't care. Time and again you tried to disturb us and disrupt our life - killing innocent civilians by planting bombs in trains, buses and cars. You have tried hard to bring death and destruction, cause panic and fear and create communal disharmony but everytime you were disgustingly unsuccessful. Do you knowhow we pass our life in Mumbai? How much it takes for us to earn that single rupee? If you wanted to give us a shock then we are sorry to say that you failed miserably in your ulterior motives. Better look elsewere, not here.We are not Hindus and Muslims or Gujaratis and Marathis or Punjabis and Bengalies. Nor do we distinguish ourselves as owners or workers, govt employees or private employees. WE ARE MUMBAIKERS (Bombay-ites, if youlike).
We will not allow you to disrupt our life like this. On the last few occassions when you struck (including the 7 deadly blasts in asingle day killing over 250 people and injuring 500+ in 1993), we went to work next day in full strength. This time we cleared everything within a few hours and were back to normal - the vendors placing their next order, businessmen finalizing the next deals and the office workers rushing to catch the next train. (Yes the same train you targetted)
Fathom this: Within 3 hours of the blasts, long queues of blood donating volunteers were seen outside various hospital, where most of the injured were admitted. By 12 midnight, the hospital had to issue a notification that blood banks were full and they didn't require any more blood. The city has simply dusted itself off and moved on - perhaps with greater vigour.
We are Mumbaikers and we live like brothers in times like this. So, do not dare to threaten us with your crackers. You might kill a few people but the spirit of Mumbai is very strong and can not be harmed.
From,
The Mumbaikers.

Imagine .....
Each of us has such a bank. Its name is TIME. Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day. If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against the "tomorrow." You must live in the present on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness, and success! The clock is running. Make the most of today!
God's Cake ....
Smile for you .....
When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too.
I passed around the corner and someone saw my grin
When he smiled i realised i'd pass it on to him.
I thought about that smile then i realised its worth,
A single smile, just like mine could travel round the earth.
So, if you feel a smile begin, dont believe it undetected.
Lets start an epidemic quick, and gets the world infected!

Satisfaction Test .....
The boy asked, "Lady, can you give me the job of cutting your lawn? The woman replied, "I already have someone to cut my lawn."
"Lady, I will cut your lawn for half the price of the person who cuts your lawn now," replied the boy. The woman responded that she was very satisfied with the person who was presently cutting her lawn.
The little boy found more perseverance and offered, "Lady, I'll even sweep your curb and your sidewalk, so on Sunday you will have the prettiest lawn in all of North Palm beach, Florida."
Again the woman answered in the negative. With a smile on his face, the little boy replaced the receiver.
The store owner, who was listening to all this, walked over to the boy and said, "Son, I like your attitude. I like your positive spirit and would like to offer you a job."
The little boy replied, "No, thanks, I was just checking my performance on the job I already have. I'm the one who is working for that lady I was talking to!"
